Background of Establishment

Contributing to a Circular Economy and Reducing 10,000 Tons of CO2 Annually by Improving Solvent Recycling Rates in Thailand

As global interest in carbon neutrality rises, Thailand has positioned the "Bio-Circular-Green (BCG) Economic Model" as a national strategy, increasing awareness of recycling even in active industrial sectors.

Currently, the solvent recycling rate in Thailand is less than 3%, indicating significant potential for further development.

Amid this context, Union Petrochemical Public Co., Ltd. (hereafter, UKEM), a major petrochemical solvent company in Thailand, took note of the high quality of recycled solvents from Toyota Kagaku's advanced solvent recycling technology through JFE Shoji Electronics.

In addition to the development potential of Japanese-made recycled solvents in Thailand, this aligns with the Thai government's green industry development policy, leading to the establishment of the joint venture, UTJ Glean Solutions (Thailand) Co., Ltd., which will undertake solvent recycling factory functions.

Business Descriotion

About UTJ's Solvent Recycling

UTJ collects and recycles waste solvent discharged after solvent use from various factories, providing high-quality, low-cost recycled solvents that meet usage standards throughout the process.

Achieving Quality on Par with New Liquids

Features of Solvent Recycling

Benefit 1
High Efficiency Recycling with State-of-the-Art Distillation Equipment
Recycling wasted solvents, which is typically incinerated as industrial waste, significantly contributes to reducing CO2 emissions compared to combustion.
Benefit 2
Contributing to CO2 Emission Reductions
UTJ's solvent recycling is expected to contribute to a reduction of 10,000 tons of CO2 emissions annually.

Strengths and Points of the Business

POINT 1
Strong Partnerships
By leveraging the strengths of three companies—UKEM, which has a long history in solvent sales and is a listed company in Thailand; Toyota Kagaku, which has advanced technology in solvent recycling; and JFE Shoji Electronics, which has a strong customer base and support system for cleaning agents in Thailand—we aim to establish a stable and high-quality supply system for recycled solvents.
POINT 2
Achieving Quality on Par with New Liquids
We have a track record of meeting quality evaluation standards for recycled solvents in various factories in Thailand, characterized by quality on par with new liquids.
POINT 3
Consideration for the Environment
Recycling waste solvent contributes significantly to reducing CO2 emissions. UTJ's solvent recycling is expected to contribute to an annual reduction of 10,000 tons of CO2 emissions.
POINT 4
Complying with the Thai Government's Recommended Green Industry Development Policy
The current solvent recycling rate in Thailand is reported to be less than 3% (according to UKEM), suggesting further growth potential. By establishing a foundation for promoting recycling businesses, this venture aligns with the Thai government's green industry development policies.

Meaning Behind the Name
"UTJ" Represents

"UTJ" represents the initials of the three companies (UKEM, Toyota Kagaku, JFE Shoji) and also evokes the idea of "United Thailand and Japan." Additionally, "Glean" is a coined term combining "Green" and "Clean," aiming for "contribution to the environment."

Furthermore, "Glean" is a verb meaning "to gather," reflecting the desire to collect and recycle what has previously been discarded or incinerated, contributing to the environment.

Future Prospects

The establishment of a factory in Thailand will leverage the know-how and technology of solvent recycling for gradual business expansion. We also aim to expand not only within Thailand but to Southeast Asian countries such as Vietnam, Indonesia, and India.
